How do I apply cat eye gel?+

Apply a thin first coat and cure it for 30 seconds. Apply a second coat and leave it wet, then hold a cat eye magnet at about a 45 degree angle, 1 to 2 mm above the nail, for 5 to 10 seconds until the line forms. Cure for 60 seconds and finish with a top coat such as Diamond Top.

Yes. The effect comes from magnetic particles in the gel, and they only line up into a line or band when a magnet is held over the wet coat. Different magnet shapes give different patterns, from a single thin line to a wide band, so many techs keep more than one magnet at each station that offers cat eye.

How do I get a sharper, longer-lasting cat eye?+

If the line looks soft, hold the magnet closer, 1 to 2 mm above the wet gel, and keep it still for the full 5 to 10 seconds before curing. A top coat such as Diamond Top protects the effect and helps it last, and a black base such as Super Black under the cat eye makes the line stand out more.
